Ready to switch out your products for winter? Here’s a guide.

Every year around this time, our clients ask about best practices for products and their skin. Does a new season really mean you have to change products? Short answer: yes. But there’s definitely more to it. Before switching up your regimen, you want to ensure you have an established skincare routine. If you haven’t already, start by checking out our previous post on winter skincare tips to consider as the cold starts settling in. Having a solid routine is important first and foremost. The products you buy won’t matter if you don’t stay consistent. Stick to the basics! Once you begin to learn more about your skin, pay active attention to what works and what doesn’t. From there, you can slowly introduce different products to integrate seasonally.

So, why do products matter? While your skin type (dry, combo, oily) is definitive, it still experiences changes throughout the seasons. This is especially true if you live in places such as the northeast, where temperatures change as the seasons change. With all this being said, here are some of our winter skin favorites. ❄️

Cleanser

The number one thing to keep in mind when cleansing in the winter: avoid hot water. It’s tempting, but the product won’t matter if your skin is becoming dehydrated in the process. Our fav cleansers for the winter are 👇

Chamomile Cleansing Lotion - With key ingredients like chamomile and vitamin A and E, you get all the healing moisture benefits to prevent dry, red, and irritated skin.

Geleé Antioxidant Oil Cleanser - Organic hemp seed oil, one of the key ingredients in this cleanser, helps combat dehydration, skin irritations, and eczema.

These cleansers condition the skin causing your complexion to feel soft and supple. Squalene is present in both cleansers, providing softness while replacing necessary oils. It compares to human sebum, an oily substance we naturally produce to help maintain a healthy skin barrier. Both cleansers also steer clear of foaming agents, which can often strip your skin of natural oils and humectants (the opposite of what we want in the winter). Instead, they leave a slight film on your skin to avoid feeling chapped, dry, or dehydrated. Full of moisturizing ingredients these cleansers are sure to leave your skin feeling smooth, soft, and hydrated.

 Toner

Tone it up with either our Ginseng Mineral or Herb and Mineral Mist toners. By binding moisture, these toners act as “vehicles” to better deliver minerals and key ingredients into the skin.

Ginseng Mineral Toner - This is one of our best-sellers for a reason! Ginseng extract, Sodium PCA, and Hydrolyzed Mucopolysaccharides all work together to attract and maintain moisture in the skin leaving it revitalized and ready to take on the day! Pro tip: If your skin feels thirsty, you can use this multiple times a day! You can also use this as a setting spray after your makeup is done (or even before). Be one with the mist 🧘

DMK Herb and Mineral Mist Toner - With a unique blend of minerals, vitamins, and 98% cold water-soaked herbs, this polarized spray breaks through the surface tension of the skin actively increasing hydration levels

Oil

Oils are your friend, not foe, especially in colder weather climates and months. The issue is, oils are often mistaken to replace a moisturizer (to hydrate your skin) instead of working with it. The reality is, oils don’t ADD water they help BIND it by locking in the moisture. When used properly, they work together with your products to keep your skin healthy and hydrated.

DMK Seba-e Oil - This oil packed with key ingredients like Magnolia Flower Oil and Oat Kernal Oil help with water retention and barrier repair. The cold can leave skin looking dull, dry, and flaky but this oil works to add that ✨glow factor ✨ you might be missing!

DMK Herbal Pigment Oil - This hydrating oil is perfect to help brighten, smooth, and strengthen your skin. Ingredients like Soybean Oil helps reduce water loss and restore the skin barrier, particularly helpful during the winter. This is a great option for those with darker skin tones and complexions, hyperpigmentation, and skin exhibiting damage or pigmentation. Pro tip: Issues with dark spots, dark under-eye circles, dry lips, or dry cuticles? Add this to your cart. Thank me later.

 Moisturizer

We’ve talked a lot about moisture and water retention so let’s get into our moisturizer recs.

Super Firming Crème - Super Firming Creme works to combat dry and flaky skin that comes along in the winter. This is our most occlusive moisturizer which means it helps form a protective layer around your skin to help lock in the moisture you do have and again, keep the skin barrier safe. This works great on its own or can be paired with other moisturizers/oils to further seal hydration. Layer in the morning or use right before bed. Regardless, your skin is sure to feel more hydrated than ever.

DMK Hydroloc - It’s in the title! This lotion gives your skin just the boost it needs by locking in hydration. Key ingredients like Ophiopogon Japonicus Root Extract and Sunflower Seed Oil, help reduce irritations that come with dry skin and promote barrier repair and hydration.

Honorable mention goes to SPF! Because no matter the weather, the temperatures, or the time of day, SPF needs to be your BFF (if it isn’t already).

Image SPF 30 - Not only does it protect you against the sun, but it’s a weightless, hydrating daily moisturizer, meant to be used year-round. This broad-spectrum sunscreen with SPF 30 gives you exactly the protection and hydration you need.

Supplements

DMK EFA+ - If you suffer from skin conditions such as eczema or psoriasis, you probably feel the effects of flare-ups during the winter. With DMK EFA+ Supplements, in conjunction with a consistent skincare routine, you can help minimize flare-ups and strengthen your skin. These supplements are also perfect for you if you’re looking to hydrate your skin barrier especially if you’re undergoing specialized treatments such as chemical peels. Regenerate and repair your skin from the inside out.

Now, with all this being said, does this mean you need to go out and get every product on this list? Absolutely not. Everyone is different and what works for you might not work for someone else. Monitor your skin, and see what works and what doesn’t. Winter is tricky for all of us but with a consistent skincare routine and appropriate products, you’re sure to have your skin feeling hydrated and glowing, 365 days a year.
